  • Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary - Experience New Zealand’s natural heritage, just minutes from the centre of Wellington. A predator-proof fence surrounds the 250-hectare valley providing a safe haven for some of New Zealand’s most endangered birds like the little spotted Kiwi, Saddleback, Kaka and Stitchbird - usually only seen on offshore islands.

  • Wellington Zoo - is a magical place of learning and fun, leaving visitors with a sense of wonder and respect for nature, and a belief in the need for a sustainable co-existence between wildlife and people. Wellington Zoo offers an exciting programme of Close Encounters (prices apply) which allow visitors to get up close to many fascinating creatures.

  • Wellington Cable Car - The cars run from Lambton Quay in the commercial heart of the city, tunnel under the corporate towers of The Terrace and emerges in Kelburn. The ride continues past Kelburn Park and the Victoria University to the top of Upland Road, where the Lookout, Carter Observatory, Planetarium and Cable Car Museum are located.Also provides access to the Botanical Gardens including the Hot House and Rose Beds.

  • Embassy Theatre - Catch a movie at this elegant art deco theatre. Home to the World Premier of our own Lord of the Rings and Peter Jacksons King Kong.

  • Trentham Race track - The track design is widely acknowledged as one of the best in Australasia, a fact demonstrated by the amount of world records broken on it over the years. Home to Wellington Racing Club and staging a host of top races, Trentham remains as popular today as it was one hundred years ago with racegoers putting on their finest and enjoying the thrill of some quality racing.

Top Activities For Wellington (Johnsonville)

  • Te Papa Museum - Home of New Zealands History, offering guided tours, inter active childrens activities and hosting an ever changing 'specials' feature. Te Papas Hosts are happy to answer questions, there are maps of each level and the museum is open every day from 10am - 6pm and 9pm on Thusdays. Free entry but charges may apply to some short-term exhibitions.

  • Khandallah Park - climb through bush tracks to the Mt Kaukau lookout. For the less energetic in the group, picnic in the reserve where there is room for a game of cricket or frisbee and a play area for children. On really hot days pamper yourself in the open-air (non-heated) swimming pool. Hire a barbecue and stay for dinner. This is a great spot for an all day outing. Admission: Free.
